Why wait till 90?

Yesterday we celebrated my grandfather's 89th birthday. It was a relatively low key event, but we had my dad's whole side of the family there (35 in all) and I got a chance to see a number of relatives that I haven't seen in many years. Being a summer function at my dad's house the menu consisted mostly of barbecue, but we also brought in a few catered salads, and had far too many leftovers as is wont to happen in these situations.

Presents commenced, and my grandparents took another technological step forward as they got a DVD player. They also got a one year Netflix subscription, which I'm hopeful that they will use and enjoy.

It was amazing to me how long it had been since I'd seen some of my family; some of my cousins I hadn't seen in at least five years. It was nice to catch up and shocking to see little kids turn into full grown adults in the intervening time, although I'm sure I had changed to them as well.

Overall it was great to see everyone and catch up and wonderful to help my grandfather celebrate 89. Next year will be the big 9-0,so I guess we better start planning it now!
