Interview Prep
On Friday I'm going in to McKinsey for an interview with their biotech/pharmaceutical department and I've never had as much fun preparing for an interview as I have the past couple days. The typical consulting interview consists of a number of non traditional sections, including an estimation question, business case studies, as well as a problem solving test. I honestly can't think of anything that would be more right up my alley. Having been doing practice cases from various consulting firms, I've come to realize how much I really want to be working as a consultant. Although I enjoyed doing the research, I never felt like I was truly having fun doing it. Thinking back on the experiences I've had that were of the consulting type, I always enjoyed them. I just never realized how I could apply those (often academic) incidents into something that I could do in real life. I'm glad now that I took the time post Australia to really think about where I wanted to go with my life. I feel that I'm now taking steps in the right direction, regardless of the outcome of the interview.

Long time no comment... Yeah I've been having some of those "Where is my life going?" and "Is this what I really want to do?" moments lately. My Business based honours started this week and I'm really looking forward to applying all those, almost ethereal, concepts they made us learn in marketing and commercialisation subjects to a real technology. Its a little bit scary to realise that the opinions I put forward in my final report will actually be taken seriously and money, serious money, might change hands because of what I say. Additionally my second lot of honours, this one to do with increasing the half life of a protein important in hormone dependant prostate cancer will commence in March and that will give me a taste for lab based research. After that I can use my experiences so far to decide whether a PhD is the way to go or if I'm ready for the workforce. All in all I feel like I'm stepping into the unknown and I think I know how you feel... Longest comment ever...

I really rambled there. I'm sorry. I was originally just trying to say 'Yeah, know how you feel. I've just hit a point where the direction my life has taken feels "right"' No matter what, do what you enjoy and everything else will look after itself.
that's awesome! i could absolutely see you consulting. my cousin works for the mckinsey office in nyc (and my bro for the one in palo alto). they're both overworked, especially my cousin. )= but these days, who isn't? (= you sort of remind me of my brother in that you're the "that nice guy who gets the job done" type; and he's done very well at mckinsey with that. do you happen to know what your myers-briggs type is?
