Got back from Brians wedding, and just had a great time. I was a groomsman, along with a bunch of other guys including Mark, Chris, and the best man Eric. Meg and I were picked up at the train by Brian, Eric and Chris, and we made our way to the tux shop where I picked up my tux (a perfect fit which was nice) and then we swung by Chris' house before heading over to Brian's. From there we went to the church for the rehearsal and followed that up with an excellent dinner at Clara's, a converted railroad station. After that was a bunch of errands, including preparations for a small party later that night for Brian. We also had to pick up materials to complete the various art projects that popped up throughout the weekend. We get back to the hotel, checked in, and went up to our rooms. Shortly after Brian, Eric, Chris, Mark and myself were playing cards and enjoying Brian's last night of freedom. We played lots of hearts, and I won the game with a grand total of 6 points. After that we talked for a while and just hung out till it was late and we needed to sleep before the wedding the next day. We got up and were going to breakfast at the "Flap Jack Shack". Of course, we drove like 15 minutes to get to one, and only upon returning to the hotel afterwards (because we had forgotten to bring one of the art projects [the little planetary purple pieces of paper that said to please take a vase home which had been made into tents]) did we realize that there was one almost directly accross the street from the hotel (Meg had seen this one before and wondered why it took so long to get there) It was a good laugh. Then we headed over to the church where we found a fresh dead raccoon sitting right in the entrance to the church. Chris picked up the raccoon by its foot and diligently carried him over to the other side of the road and threw him into the woods. Then we sat around taking pictures, and playing more cards in the cry room while waiting for the time to arrive. Everythign got underway, Brian and Candace were married, everyone was joyful, and we proceeded out into the narthax (kind of like an anteroom) where the receiving line was. At this point the groomsmen had another project to undertake- the decorating of the limo, which we proceeded to do with paper and a black magic marker. We spelled out Just Married, added a few hearts and went back to collect everyone to head over to the reception after tons more pictures. We got there after the cocktail hour had ended, and dinner was served upon our arrival. Had delicious Michigan Chicken topped with a sauce made with Michigan cherries (hence the name). Then I somehow managed to catch the garter, and subsequently had to put it on Jessica, the bridesmaid who caught the bouquet. I definitely didn't know about that tradition when I jumped to catch the garter. It was fun nonetheless, and I had a good time doing it. Meg said afterward that she knew it would be me catching it as soon as they announced it, so I hope I'm not becoming too predictable. The rest of the night was a blur of dancing and music, eating a giant chocolate covered strawberry and getting wax all over my face from blowing out a candle too hard. Then once again it was off to bed (along with a number of vases which were left behind). Meg and I got up early to leave with Jen who picked us up. She was staying with her family in Grand Rapids, only an hour or so away from East Lansing where the wedding was. So we said our goodbyes to sleepy people, and headed off to Grand Rapids for the afternoon where we got the grand tour of the city, and hung out at Jens house for a few hours. Then we were off to good old Evanston, and finally got there 5 hours after we left thanks to several hours of traffic. I slept for a good deal of the ride home, and when we got here we went for a quick bite at Clarke's before coming home and getting ready for bed here.
